Postmodernism Final Exam

The objective of this test is to allow you to explore what you have learned about the Internet as a new medium of communication, light of our discussions around postmodernism. There will be a single question and you will build a Web site in response. You will turn in the Web site; no hard copy is expected. It is due on the day that the final exam would be held and is worth 20 percent of your grade.

The grading criteria:

  • Your insight into the Web as a communication medium and your depth of understanding of the concept of post-modernism (50%)

  • Your use of the Web to answer the question (40%)

  • Programming accuracy (10%)

Additional notes: You do not have to develop fancy graphics to do well on this test. But you will want to think about how to use the attributes of the Web to enhance your presentation. Your thinking, however, is most important.

What is a postmodern "paper"? Consider the following examples of some hypertext essays and alternative ways of presenting information:

E-literacies: Politexts, Hypertexts, and Other Cultural Formations in the Late Age of Print by Nancy Kaplan

Hotwired BrainTennis: Digital Storytelling, is it art? debate between Janet Murray and Sven Birkerts

Argumentation on the World Wide Web thesis by Tom Formaro
