Steps for Completing your Project
Web Site
Upload
your site to the server and make a link from your table
of contents
The last step is to put your site on
the server. Remember, this site should not have files mixed
in with your personal site. This site should be in its own
folder with a URL like:
http://nmc.loyola.edu/intro/fall02/lastname/finalproject
You
should have already defined your site:

Remember to specify the folder name
for finalproject in the host directory field! (You should
already have a folder on the server called "finalproject"
this will enable you to connect directly to this one folder.
If you never created this folder on the server then the
connection will not work).

If you are confused about using Dreamweaver
to FTP your files review this section on Managing
and Defining a Site in Dreamweaver
UPLOAD
YOUR FILES
To put your site on the Web, you need
to connect to the server. Click the 2 plugs icon. You should
see an empty folder in the left window if you have successfully
connected to the finalproject folder but haven't uploaded
any files to the Web yet. If you cannot connect, make sure
that your correctly filled out all of the fields in the
Define Site window (part "a" above this one).

These files were successfully uploaded.
Notice how the file structure is exactly the same on both
the right and left hand sides (minus the files that are
unneccessary for the site, like template.htm or any images
that you ended up not using.)

Still confused? See: how
to define your local root folder and set up ftp information.
Make
a link to this site from your table of contents
You might be more comfortable doing
this simple step using Notepad and WS_FTP (the ftp software
we used in the beginning of the class), but if you want
to make this link using Dreamweaver, then you have to redefine
your site. Go back to step "a" and simply remove
the "finalproject" from the paths.
- The path to the local root folder
should be: F:\Internet\www or D:\Internet\www (depending
on which drive is the zip on your computer)

Click OK to this message
- In the Remote Info section,
remove the finalproject/ from the Host Directory field
and leave that field blank.

Now when you click OK, you will see
your table of contents default page in the site management
window with folders for each project.

Double click the default file to open
it, create your link by highliting "Final Project"
and then click to browse for the default file inside the
finalproject folder.
The path should be "finalproject/default.htm"

Warning: If
you get a message that says that this file is outside your
local root directory, then you did not redefine your site
correctly. Check to make sure you removed the finalproject/
from the local root directory path and the host directory
path.
Once you've made your link, save the
file, and then click the 2 plugs icon to connect to the
server. You should see an identical file structure in both
the right and left windows, just like in this image:

Highlite the default.htm file and click
the up arrow to upload the new table of contents with the
link to the Final Project home page to the server.
Test
Site
Make sure your Web site is online and
that it works. Make sure all of your images display and
all of your links load.
Finish
up Documentation
Your documentation should be mostly
finished, as you should have done most of the work before
you designed the site (in step 2).
Make sure you have all of the sections
described in the Documentation page.
