Spring Break Outreach

and Service
The Loyola College Spring Break Outreach
program is a service and 
educational
experience which offers small groups of students, faculty and
staff a hands-on opportunity to take a closer look at issues facing
people and communities often overlooked by the larger society.
Participants at each of the sites make a commitment to live simply
during their week of service; staying in sleeping bags, preparing
and eating economical meals and limiting access to shower facilities.
The various sites offer opportunities to feed the homeless, rebuild
houses, help the young and the old, and all kinds of community
development programs.
Goals
- To raise participant's awareness of issues
facing economically poor people in the United States
- To create an immersion experience which
allows participan
ts to encounter
the culture, faith, gifts and lifestyles of the people in their
host communities while sharing their own gifts with those they
meet.
- To provide a forum for participants to
explore their understanding of service, justice and spirituality.
- To help participants incorporate the knowledge
gained through the Spring Break Outreach experience into their
daily lives at Loyola and beyond.
