File Structure

The most important thing to understand in Web development is file structure. In HTML files, pages are connected through links. In Flash, timelines and objects are also linked to each other, although in a different way.

In class, this is the basic file structure that we will all be using to organize our sites. Recreate the same exact system of folders inside one another on your zip disk:

Your last name folder is an identical copy of your folder on the server where you will keep your Web site. So there will two copies of your Web site, one copy on your zip disk and one copy on the server.

The new URL of your course will be:

http://nmc.loyola.edu/advanced/studentwork/spring03/lastname

Only the following files should go on the server or be saved in your last name folder:

Last Name folder
raw folder
HTML or HTM Web Pages
GIF Graphic Image
JPG Photograph
SWF Shockwave Flash
(for Web)
PSD Photoshop and ImageReady files
PNG Fireworks
MP3, WAV, Audio
FLA Flash
(for authoring)
