The Piano
A Film by Jane Campion

Be very concious of details and be careful not to "over-animate," TOO much movement is frequently distracting, unnecessary and looks very amateurish. Remember, in motion graphics, the motion can be more important and have more impact than the graphical element being moved. The way you choose to move, or not move, an element across the screen can enhance the meaning of that element greatly.

Spend a lot of time looking at kinetic typography on the Web, on commercials, in films and sitcoms.

Details: Frame rate: up to you, but consider using a frame rate between 18 and 24 fps.
Movie Size: 640 pixels wide x 360 pixels high (adjust movie properties in Modify-->Movie)
Export your FLA as a SWF and insert it in an HTML page. Upload this assignment to the server and link to your assignment from your course site.

File Size: your final SWF file should be less than 500K.

Some tips on reducing file size:

  • Never bring in images that are NOT 72 dpi
  • Limit the number of bitmaps you import (try to use lines and graphics you have made in Flash as much as possible)
  • Import your images as PNG files
  • Make your sound shorter! Consider using a loop that is less than 15 seconds.
