The Door's church capacity building program focuses primarily on helping both urban and suburban churches play a stronger and more effective part in reaching out to disadvantaged East Baltimore communities. Programs are funded by local businesses and churches, as well as private donations.
While many Baltimore churches already work with area health clinics, educational programs, and building renovation committees, these outreaches can be interrelated/coordinated for maximum impact. The Door's church capacity Building program, consisting of two main projects, Project Justice, and houses of worship hope to bridge existing cultural and racial divides among area churches in order to unite their efforts into a common quest for hope and opportunity for Baltimore's impoverished communities.
Project Goals/Process:
To raise the capacity of urban churches to effect community improvement, and to reconcile urban and suburban churches.
Program Activities:
Reconciliation efforts; joining resources to needs.
Partners:
To provide an oppurtunity for Pastors to come together in worship, prayer, projects and learning experiences: to recognize the alienation and misunderstandind that exists between Christians of different ethnic backgrounds; and to voice resulting concerns and tackle difficult subjects.
If you are a Pastor and are interested in joining the Project Justice Pastor Group please call Kim Turner at The Door, 410-675-3288.
Program Activities:
A monthly luncheon for pastors (30-40 pastors participate in each luncheon). Annual planning retreat.
Many of The Door's Church Partners can be found on the Houses of Worship homepage. Houses of Worship is a free service which provides customized and automated web pages for churches across North America.
